PPORD Question ? The Great Depression have occurred if the monopolies of the early 20th century were left intact
These companies were huge! Would FDR have to bail them out during the Depression? Or was it more like the compromise of 1850, only delays the inevitable onslaught of depression? What the Great Depression took place earlier? Best answer:

Maybe, maybe not. It is difficult to predict such a thing. I assume that the economy may have lasted longer, do not know if we could have avoided the depression entièrement.Mais then you must consider the alternative: if the monopolies and cartels were left intact, we would have loads of inflation, which could have contributed to the depression itself. Therefore Lassie fair, like all economic systems or government, only works in certain situations. There will always be cases where the logic of the plan is foiled.

  1. meg says:

We experienced economic problems in the 1890’s which is one or the reasons for the reforms that broke up the monopolies, However then almost half of the labor force still worked on farms so the effect were less.

By the time FDR took office in 1933 the GDP had fallen by 40% and there was over 20% unemployment, so if action were taken to save companies it would have had to be done by Hoover.
