Question : What are the chances of our children end up being a depression or bipolar
My boyfriend and I want to have a child. The only thing I worry about is whether or not he would end up having a depression or be bipolar. I suffer from depression and my boyfriend is bipolar. My mother and my younger brother is also bipolar and my mom was also a depression. I was told that the two are inherited. While this means that our child would probably end up like us? Best answer:

Depression and bipolar disorder are psychological problems, and with most psychological disorders listed in DSM-IV, your child may inherit a personality trait on your part that could give them the opportunity to develop depression or bipolar disorder, but the genes and environment are both importants.Si the child is raised in a loving, happy home, (not dysfunctional), there is less of a risk that he or she will become depressed about bipolar disorder, but it has to do with personality (which is partly hereditary), and the environment. It’s not like a disease which, if you have it, it can be “transmitted” to your child. Just the possibility that it could happen, or type susceptibility. So to answer your question, there are genetic, but environmental situations, and life also play a role important.Donc I would not refrain from having a child if I really wanted one because there a possibility that they may become bipolar or depression, but it’s your decision.
