Question by dxarmbar06: Why different body fat levels for men and women?
Every single stinking resource on the internet regarding body fat composition says 8%bf is ideal athlete level for men while average is like 12%, while ideal athlete for women is like 19% and average is 25%. Internet also says you’ll get lots of health problems if your body fat drops below those levels. WTF? I was at 8% my senior year of high school and was in amazing shape, athletically at the top of my game with zero health problems. I’ve been lower and the only thing that happened was I had tons of energy and ran faster bc I had less fat slowing me down. I’ll admit, I slacked off after high school and gained 15lbs so now am at like 20% bf and am burning myself out trying to get back to where I was, but jeez every weight loss and fitness resource on the net is saying that the ideal elite female athlete is below the average in-decent-shape guy. BS! Are there any internet resources out there that aren’t completely full of crap and don’t discourage women from reaching their full athletic potential? (And unless you are an endocrinologist, I really don’t want to hear anyone defending the internet fad-facts for fat women).
Hey shut the hell up Ryu I’m a wrestler and you’re a dumbass, I’m probably in better shape right now at my 20 than you are at your 14 or whatever puny bit of musculature you have.
Are ANY of you endocronologists? I didn’t THINK SO! So stfu about crap you know nothing about.
NO my period did NOT go missing and my boobs are fine.
Did anyone even read my description or did they just read my title and answer for points?
RESOURCES NOT OPINIONS FAT ASSES!!
To the last poster who actually read my description (thnx btw): In my sport men routinely get down to 5% bf with no problems, I’ve seen them go slightly lower. Like I said I was at 8% and at the top of my game, period and everything. I really think the whole bf percentage levels are just internet popular opinion with the fitness craze. Are there any resources on the web that maybe are specific for athletes or don’t differentiate by gender?
Yeah I hang around elite athletes too and I’ve got about exactly the same creds as you do to say you’re completely wrong. Have you NOT been listening when I said I WAS 8% and felt amazing. There’s nothing wrong with me being 8%, there’s nothing wrong with women being 8%, there was NOTHING wrong with my hormones when I was at that weight so stop trying to tell me there was. I know my body numscull, you can say I had tons of health problems if you want but the fact of the matter is that I didn’t and you’re still wrong. I LOVE how you’re an endocrinologist.
Is NO ONE going to answer my question? I need a no or a yes and a link to web references.
Silver, you weren’t going to hunt down links for me anyway, you were just going to try to tout supposed expertise on a subject that you’re not an expert on anyway. What you’re saying is that you have just as much credentials as me and I’m saying something different than you, how are you automatically right?
Look PEOPLE, do I have to beat you over the head with the fact that I WAS AT 8% and THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH ME! I know 2 other girl wrestlers who were also 10% or under and no “hormone problems” there. The reason I’m so ticked is because you’re not answering my questions, you’re just trying to close your ears to what I’m saying and pretend I don’t exist. HELLO I’M RIGHT HERE!!! Are you going to ignore a speeding car coming at you until it slams you in the face? Internet Fitness Culture sells products to FAT WOMEN, the closer they say they are to achieving the ultimate goal of elite athlete status, the more likely they are to buy their product. IT’S TOTAL BS GUYS!
Here, I know this girl, she has a bjj school behind Gracie Torrance. Girl wrestler, skinny as a rod, pure muscle and a professional athlete, EXCELLENT HEALTH! 8% body fat.
